Take It or Leave It!

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10.10

Abundant life – what is that anyway? The word “abundant” has as one of its meanings “to have plenty of something.” The life of which Jesus speaks here is SPIRITUAL life. And His desire for each one of His children is that we would have this life abundantly – overflowing. Some years ago I was speaking with a person who was believer, but who had experienced substantial disappointments in life. The question that was posed to me was this: “If Jesus wants me to have abundant life, where is it?” This was an honest question from someone who KNEW God and wanted to ENJOY the abundant life He had promised, but the question was one that so many are asking even today. “How do I GET this abundant life?”
Let me suggest that so many of God’s children live beneath their privileges. I recall a story about Abraham Lincoln and his son, Tad. Tad come in to see his father one day and  the waiting room outside his office was filled with people waiting to see the president. Over in the corner was a soldier who was weeping uncontrollably. Tad stopped and asked his what was wrong. He said he was waiting to see the president to get permission to go see his dying mother, but there were so many people ahead of him. Tad took the soldier by the hand and said, “Come with me” and he led the young soldier past all the others and directly into his father’s office. He could do that because he was the president’s son. He was living up to his privilege as the president’s son. We are children of the King of Kings. We have privileges and one of those is access to the abundant life. You can either have it or not have it – the choice is up to you. Just My Thoughts  …
