“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” Philippians 1.6
Our world has grown weary with promises made and then broken. In the political arena we hear nearly every politician make promises repeatedly and we wonder how or if they can possibly keep those promises. But the words spoken by Paul above contain a promise from God that He is going to finish what He stated – He is going to get us all the way home to heaven.
The work that God began in us when He saved us was a work to conform us to image of His dear Son, Jesus Christ. In Romans 8.29 23 read: “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” This conforming process is an ongoing process that is at times painful but necessary. In all of our lives there are things that He needs to remove from our lives so that we begin acting more like His Son. I believe it is a life-long process. I know that He is still shaping me on a daily basis. The Holy Spirit reminds me of the things I do that do NOT look like Jesus. May we continually release control of our lives to God with such surrender that allows us to be more like Jesus everyday. Remember, God’s faithfulness to me is not dependent on my faithfulness to Him. He will keep every promise “until the day of Jesus Christ.” Just My Thoughts …
