Take God Up on His Offer!

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. (11) Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Ephesians 6.10-11

Most of us have watched enough television to have observed the protective armor members of a SWAT team wears. Couple that with the uniforms that football players wear, and we come to realize that there are situations and occasions that arise when protective gear is a necessity. The same truth applies to us as Christ-followers. Paul’s words of admonition to the Ephesian believers and to all who will read his words carry significant weight in our battle against our arch enemy, Satan and his demons. Verse 10 gives us a starting point: “be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.” We must never think that God expects us to fight our battles in the spiritual arena without any help from Him. On the contrary, we are to draw on His might. “Well then, why do we need armor?” you ask. Our strength comes from God who operates in us and through us. But, the armor is needed to protect us from Satan’s attacks. Take a look at this armor in the verses that follow: (1) {13} “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God”; we need everything that God can and will supply to be fully protected.(2)  {14} “Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth”, Satan hates God’s truth, since it reminds him of his future home;  (3) “the breastplate of righteousness”; the breastplate covers the vital organs; (4) {15} “your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace”; your feet give you the ability to go where you want, and the gospel of peace helps you determine where you ought to go; (5) {16} “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” You control the movement of the shield and use it to stop any incoming dangerous lie of Satan and it operates in the arena of YOUR faith. (6) {17} “And take the helmet of salvation”, the helmet protects the part of your body that made decisions and choices and it is directly connected to our salvation found in Christ. (7) “and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:” The one offensive weapon you have is the Word of God – the sword of the Spirit. Use it to attack Satan himself. James reminds us to “resist the devil” and he will flee.(8) {18} “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;” never, NEVER go into battle without prayer. It is your supply line between you and God. Consider what God offers in the way of protection and use it always in your encounters with your arch enemy, Satan. Just My Thoughts
