Crucifixion? Really?

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2.20

When we talk about “favorite verses” in the Bible, this one ranks right up there with John 3.16. But, have we taken time to examine what Paul is really saying here? “I am CRUCIFIED with Christ …” The only thing crucifixion is designed to do is produce death for the one being crucified. So, when we look carefully at what Paul is saying here, his confession is clear: “I live; yet not I …” It is like he is saying, “I exchanged my life for Christ’s life in me.” Can you fathom the ramifications of such a life for Paul? He had been such a rebel and persecutor. Now he has laid his life at Christ’s feet and said, “It is you in me or I have nothing.”
But, you ask, how do we live such a life? Paul’s answer is all we need, “the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God …” What kind of commitment does that require? Crucifixion, surrender, call it what you will – it means giving Christ my all. Why? Because He “loved me, and gave himself for me.” Let’s not waste anymore days attempting to live our lives in a way that will glorify God without the Christ-life being in control. Give up – accept crucifixion, and give Christ His place- first place – and watch Him work in you and through you. Just My Thoughts  …
