“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14.6
If I want to drive to Columbus, I can take one of several routes to get there. But, if I want to go to heaven, there is only ONE way to do that.
I am glad Thomas asked the question that he did. He said in v, 5: “Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?” Jesus’ answer is given in the verse above. He did not stutter when He said, “I AM THE way, THE truth, and THE life …”
As most of us recognize, we live in a world that wants to offer a “cafeteria style” choice to get to heaven. The problem with that kind of thinking is that the one who owns the place to which you are going determines whether or not you get in. Heaven belongs to God and His “ticket” to get into His heaven is a personal relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ, who gave His life to pay for our sins.
In John 14, Jesus is wrapping up His earthly ministry because the cross is getting closer, so His words to His disciples are crucial for them to hear and understand. Hence the words, “no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” First, examine your own heart and determine whether or not you have received Jesus as Savior. Then think through those you know and identify those who may not have a relationship with Christ, and ask God to give you an opportunity to share your testimony with them in 2017.
Since Jesus is the ONLY way, we need to live a life that shows we belong to Him. And we need to be willing to share what we know with those who do not know Him as Savior. It is tragic that we live in a world where millions do not even know that God has a Son and that He died for their sins. Let’s “each one reach one” in 2017. Just my thoughts …
