Only One – Not Many!

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4.12

“ … none other name … ” That seems a little narrow doesn’t it. There was an expression in New Testament time that said, “All roads lead to Rome.” Since I live in Ohio, I might say that there are many ways to get to Columbus. The road I take would be determined by the direction from which I would be coming.

But Jesus was very clear when He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” He left no room for argument. Peter is equally adamant about this matter when he is talking with the Roman authorities. He states clearly, “Neither is there salvation in any other … ” Jesus isn’t just one of MANY ways to get to the Father. He is the ONLY way.

Our present culture is such that we are asked to be tolerant of others in their beliefs. But when the Word of God is clear and the message is important for all eternity, you and I have the responsibility to tell the truth about heaven and hell, about God and His Son Jesus. If we are coerced into keeping silent for fear that someone will be offended, when it comes to eternity, there is no time to be silent – only time to declare the truth.

The simple truth that “we must be saved” needs to be presented to as many as possible. If the gospel offends them, so be it. But we don’t need to be offensive when giving the gospel. I would like to have been able to be an observer when Peter was being questioned by these Roman authorities. We read in v. 13: “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.” Oh that men might take knowledge of us that we too have been with Jesus. Just my thoughts …
