Let Us – All of Us!

And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10.24-25

Some seem to be more given to provoking someone than others. But when I read this verse, we are called to provoke one another to love and good works. That is something entirely different with regard to provoking. So, how do we provoke someone to love and good works? I would think we do it by modeling the same. How encouraging would it be to another brother or sister in Christ if we demonstrated unconditional love to them, – at a time when they would least expect it. How encouraging it would be to do a good work for someone who desperately needs it but has not asked us to do it – perhaps because they are embarrassed or don’t know how to ask. let the Holy Spirit guide you in helping those around you in need.

This next verse is one that so many believers who claim to “love the Lord” but not the church, need to read and apply. “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together … ” “Pastor, I can be spiritual without going to church.” Let’s look at it a little differently. How about simply OBEYING what the Lord tells us to do? We gather together to exhort one another. What does that mean? To exhort means to strongly encourage someone. You never know who needs a word of encouragement from you when you encounter them at church. I think the phrase, “as ye see the day approaching” is a reference to the Lord’s return. I want to be found doing what He has told me to do when He comes back. I don’t want to be embarrassed because I simply refused to obey what He told me to do. Just my thoughts …
